Twains was a popular nightclub in Surfers Paradise during the late 1970s and early 1980s, located in The Mark shopping center. It was a prominent venue during the "disco wars" era, competing with The Penthouse for dominance in the nightclub scene. Twains eventually closed in 1987 and was replaced by the SAR Club. The Gold Coast's nightlife has evolved significantly since Twains' time, with changes in licensing laws, operating hours, and the overall atmosphere due to a larger population and different social norms.
