Pretty much any band who was anyone in the rock music industry in Australia played at The Playroom, and it also hosted all the big international touring rock bands.
It was also a buzz for local bands to play there, and the other big live band venues of the day on the coast: the Patch, the Jet Club, Fisherman’s Wharf, and Bombay Rock.
The much-loved venue unfortunately succumbed to government re-development of the site, and where it stood is now a car park.
“They paved paradise; put up a parking lot..”
Everyone was there for a good time…
Bands that played that final weekend in 1999 included The Porkers (Newcastle), Eskimo Joe (Perth), Shihad (New Zealand) and Not From There (Brisbane) sharing the stage with local bands.
Then on Monday, the bulldozers rolled in…
The Playroom: missed but always remembered…
